If you’ve been perusing through Tiktok or Instagram, it’s very likely that you’ve come across a song by the Black Pumas. Led by Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada, the group brings their psychedelic soul sounds to the stage with strong vocal presence and smooth instrumentations.

Having been active since 2017, the Black Pumas have already been nominated for a Grammy in 2020 for the Best New Artist! Their success bled into the 2021 Grammy with nominations for Record of the Year, American Roots Performance, and Album of the Year. They have several singles and one studio album released with new material surely to be released soon. At the moment, the band is on a world tour across the US and Europe that will span from the end of 2021 through the middle of 2022.

In the Rolling Stones article “Black Pumas: Rise of a Psychedelic-Soul Force”, the band is described as follows - “When the two finally met at Quesada’s Austin studio, it became immediately clear that they could complement each other. Burton’s smooth but gritty voice and original songs, like his rainbow-themed “Colors” (“My sisters and my brothers/See ’em like no other”), fit alongside the tracks Quesada had already cut, which were heavy on old-school electric pianos, live drums, and Quesada’s rumbly surf guitar. Quesada enhanced the classic-soul mood by introducing his younger collaborator to vintage R&B.”
