St. Paul and The Broke Bones
Bringing an old school sound to a new school stage, St. Paul and The Broken Bones brings a vibrant and powerful sound to soul music. As an eight-piece band, they are bringing their high energy to stages around the world.
Starting in Birmingham, Alabama in 2012, St. Paul and The Broken Bones has released three albums, two EPs, and a multitude of singles with a new album coming called The Alien Coast. The band consists of vocalist Paul Janeway, guitaris, Browan Lollar, bassist Jesse Phillips, drummer Kevin Leon, keyboardist Al Gamble, trumpet player Allen Branstetter, saxophone player Amari Ansari, and trombonist Chad Fisher.
With the likes of other bands and artists like Durand Jones & The Indications, Alabama Shakes, Lake Street Dive, and The Suffers, St. Paul and the Broken Bones continues the legacy of present-day soul music with a strong vocal presence and catchy rhythmic tunes. For a band that had started in 2012, their records give a nostalgic presence in music while simultaneously offering a more current sound that seamlessly intertwines with their old-fashion style.
Not only do they have a great musical style, St. Paul And the Broken Bones has had many accolades such as featuring in TV spots for NCIS Los Angeles, Grey’s Anatomy, Big Little Lies, Suits, and more. They have performed at huge festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Newport Folk, Lockn’ Festival, and Outside Lands. In 2017, the band was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance and has sold over 355,000 albums across three records. Even more impressive, the band has a star on the wall of the historic venue, First Avenue located in Minneapolis.
As mentioned on their website, St. Paul and The Broke Bones explains their next projects as the following: “A fever dream in sonic form, St. Paul & The Broken Bones’ new album The Alien Coast represents the most adventurous and original output yet from an ever-evolving musical powerhouse. In a profound shift for the Alabama-bred eight-piece… the band’s fourth full-length and first for ATO Records strays far from the time-bending soul of past work like their 2014 debut, arriving at a convergence of soul and psychedelia, stoner metal and funk. At turns explosive, elegant, and unhinged, that sound makes for a majestic backdrop to St. Paul & The Broken Bones’ visceral exploration of the strangest dimensions of the human psyche.”
